ENERGY POLICY

It is essential that a nation has a secure energy network to provide reliable supplies of electricity for domestic use, industry use and for security needs.

Such a need cannot be met by private industry as the underlying pressure on private industry is profit, and this may reduce the effectiveness of energy supply or provide insufficient backup in the event of a systems failure, as has been witnessed a number of times, for this reason such a network must be vested in government hands where profit pressures do not exist.

It is also often the case that the best places for energy production to be installed are not close to the heavily populated areas of Australia. It is for this reason that energy production installations should be linked, as should gas supplies.

The AUSTRALIAN PROTECTIONIST PARTY WA (INC) believes:

[1] The West Australian government should re-establish non-corporative government-run power generation utilities.

[2] Private, Australian owned companies would receive government assistance in establishing their own power generation capabilities.

[3] The public power generation capabilities must, for safety reasons, be at twice peak consumption.

[4] To maximize resource usage, multiple electricity generation processes should be used. Just as electricity is an essential requirement of modern society so are the fuels that power industry and fuel our vehicles. Oil and gas are those fuels and they should not be in the hands of foreign companies. Oil and gas reserves within Western Australian territory must be available to meet Western Australian needs first, and only surplus exported.

[5] Oil and gas supply cannot be in the hands of foreign monopolies.

[6] Means of transport of these fuels must be multiple, e.g. by road, by sea and by pipeline, so as to avoid disruption to supply and to avoid profiteering by the multinational companies that currently control supply.

[7] The more efficient auto fuel LNG must be made available for use for auto transport. LNG has shown to emit less pollutants than petroleum fuels but government must establish the availability and infrastructure for LNG.
